Characters travel 8 hrs per day, the rest is spent making/breaking camp, resting, foraging, etc.

Characters may travel for more than 8 hrs in a day, but each extra hour incurs +1 Misfortune (Attrition: Toughness).

Hustling/Forced Marching mounts is dangerous. For each Misfortune accrued, roll a die: On a ‘6’, the mount is useless (injured, lame, or dies).

Rivers
Unless crossing at a ford or bridge, rivers require all the players and their mounts to make Strength tests (modified by armor and encumbrance and river difficulty). Each failure adds 1 hour to the travel time and gives +1 Misfortune (Attrition: Strength). On a fumbled test, gain +2 Misfortune (Attrition: Strength) and lose a significant item of Treasure or Equipment.

Again, river crossings with mounts are dangerous. For each Misfortune accrued, roll a die: On a ‘6’, the mount is useless (injured, lame, or dies).

Forest or Hill: 2 days
Mountain or Swamp: 3 days

Exploration rewards each player with 50 gold and makes the hex claimable by the kingdom. It may also reveal an Encounter Site.

Encounter Sites

Automatic: Simply entering a hex reveals Automatic Sites that simply can’t be missed (large structures, cities, etc.).

Standard: Revealed only if the hex is explored.

Hidden: Revealed only if the hex is explored and a skill test is passed.
